What does the examination cost?

The costs due for taking the examination vary from IHK to IHK. Most chambers of industry and commerce currently charge 160 or 170 euros for the entire examAt some chambers, the examination costs 180 or even 200 euros. A partial oral examination (examination repetition) costs between 50 and 100 euros. The entire examination and the oral part of the examination can be repeated as often as desired. The examination fees to be paid are due each time. If the written examination has already been passed and only the oral examination still has to be taken, the pro rata fees will be charged for this.

What does exam preparation cost?

As already mentioned in the Chapter Preparation you do not have to participate in any instruction or course as preparation for the expert knowledge examination (according to § 34a GewO). However, due to the high failure rates, thorough and well-founded preparation is strongly recommended. Of course, prices vary greatly depending on which form of preparation you choose. You can prepare yourself with learning materials (books, scripts,…) or online offers (distance learning, e‑learning,…) for a few euros or choose face-to-face courses (full-time classes, evening classes,…). Apps and books are already available for a few euros, distance learning courses or e‑learning portals with personal support are considerably more expensive and for serious face-to-face courses the prices are around 300 euros upwards.
